Spring is one of the busiest times of the year for real estate, and here in southern West Virginia, this is when a lot of buyers really start getting that “spring fever” to find a home. If you’ve been thinking about selling, now is a great time to start getting your house ready for the market.
A few simple steps can go a long way in helping your home show better and attract stronger offers.
Declutter and Organize
One of the first things I usually recommend to sellers is decluttering. When buyers walk through your home, you want them to be able to picture themselves living there.
That’s hard to do if there are lots of personal photos, crowded countertops, or overstuffed closets. If you didn’t wear it or use it this past year, get rid of it! No need to keep a bunch of junk laying around to distract your potential buyers. The items you do choose to keep on display need to be neatly organized. Remember minimal is better in this regard.
Fix the Small Stuff
You know those little things around the house you’ve been meaning to fix? The loose cabinet handle, the dripping faucet, or the door that squeaks every time it opens?
Those small things might not seem like a big deal, but buyers definitely notice them. Taking care of those minor repairs before listing can help your home feel well-maintained and move-in ready.
Freshen Up the Curb Appeal
First impressions matter, especially when buyers are pulling up to your house for the first time. In southern West Virginia, spring curb appeal can be pretty simple. Cleaning up leftover winter debris, trimming bushes, mowing the yard, or adding a few flowers around the porch can instantly make your home feel more inviting.
Give the House a Good Cleaning
A clean home always shows better. Before listing, it’s worth taking the time to clean up everything: floors, baseboards, windows, kitchens, and bathrooms. Wipe your light switches and door handles. Wipe the trim around these areas too as this is a place that tends to get lots of dirty hands.
Buyers tend to pay extra attention to kitchens and bathrooms, so making sure those spaces are sparkling clean can make a big difference. Remember a clean space automatically makes a person feel better. Dirty and grimy vibes make the buyer automatically think they will have more work to do.
Talk With a Local Real Estate Agent
Every market is a little different, and that’s definitely true across southern West Virginia. What buyers expect in one area can be a little different in another.
Before you list your home, it’s a good idea to talk with a local real estate agent who understands the market and can help you decide what’s worth doing before listing and what isn’t.
Selling your home doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. With a little preparation and the right plan, spring can be a great time to sell a home.
